First of all I wish you guys a happy new year!

Sorry for the long break. There are so many things for me to do at the moment…

But very good things are happening: I’ll move to Berlin this month and I’m so excited. I went to Berlin right after Christmas because I had to find a room for me to live in and I found a very nice one in Berlin-Kreuzberg. I also found the time to see this great exhibition (you can see a snap of it on the third photo).

Now I’m back in Düsseldorf and I have to pack my stuff, organize the move and of course there’s still my job here. I’ll need a lot of energy (and coffee) to get everything ready…

Two weeks ago Nadine and Caro called up for their third “Weihnachtswichteln” and I took part this year.
It’s so funny to pack a a little package for somebody you don’t know personally… And of course it’s also funny to receive a package from a “stranger”.
Yesterday I got my lovely package from Trixi and I love everything in it!

- I made some labels with my stamps

I had a very nice sunday with jogging in the morning, a lot of tea (it’s getting colder here) and crafting (I made labels for some birthdaygifts).

And I saw two great exhibitions this afternoon: this one about female artist of the Avantgarde and this one with video installations and films by contemporary artists.

Hi everybody.

I’m so restless since I moved to Düsseldorf…

However this weekend I’ll finally find some time to relax. I went to the market this morning and bought some flowers and vegetables. This afternoon I’ll have a coffee with a good friend and tonight I’ll visit my parents. Tomorrow my plan is to stay at home the whole day :-)

I live in Düsseldorf for a while now and I have to say: everything’s fine. I have a lot of things to do here and I spend my time with a lot of art-exhibitions and museums. Now I’m sure that I made the right decision and that’s such a good feeling!

But of course it was not easy to leave my home in Münster. I miss my boyfriend a lot and I’m already looking forward to his first visit here at the end of October.

Last Tuesday my Mum and me visited the Botanical Garden in my hometown. We had a very nice day with a lot of sunshine and we saw so many wonderful flowers and trees.

I had a very nice weekend, probably my last weekend in our appartment. The weather is so nice here at the moment, I love those late summer days.

Today I have to pack my last things into boxes. Tomorrow my Mum will visit me and we will go to the Botanical Garden. I’m looking forward to it!

I finished university this year and now I have to move on. This meens that I will absolve two practical trainings during the next sixth months (in Düsseldorf and Berlin). So I have to leave Münster, the city where I lived for seven years, where I have good friends and where I live together with my boyfriend. We lived together for almost four years and now we’ll have a long-distance relationship. It’s so sad to see our empty bookshelves…

There are new opportunities and challenges waiting for me and I’m really looking forward to it but I have to admit that I have mixed feelings about it. So many things will change. I hope it will all go well.

Yesterday we went to a nice café here in Münster: Teilchen und Beschleuniger. It's a very comfortable place and they sell delicious bagels and coffee. So if you ever visit Münster one day you should go there :-) Have a look at their website!
Afterwards we saw this exhibition about photography by Andres Feininger. Wonderful!

Antwerp

While our stay in Bruxelles we visited Antwerp for one day. It’s not far away (about one hour by train) and we liked it a lot! I think we spent most of our time with shopping (so many nice shops!) and drinking coffee. My boyfriend finally bought himself the blue COS-jacket with white buttons and I found a fabulous fox-bag at Urban Outfitters. Also it was fun to see places I know from some of my favourite blogs, like La Chascona and Atelier Solarshop. At La Chascona I tried a coffee-variation I never had before: Coffee with milk and ginger. And I had the best brownie ever. Atelier Solarshop was awesome, such a nice and relaxed atmosphere!

Sophie Taeuber-Arp

Sophie Taeuber-Arp was an artist from Switzerland (1889-1943). I love what she made with paper, colours and all the other materials she used for her sculptures and figures. She also taught weaving at the Zurich School of Arts and Crafts.The story of her life is very interesting, so read more about her here and here. This is a nice book about her work.

I found "Dou you know Syd Barret?” by Benoît Grimalt in a nice bookshop in Bruxelles. It’s a wonderful book including pictures of Cambridge, the town Syd Barrett lived in after he left Pink Floyd and the music-industry at the age of 29.

Hotel Pantone

It was fun when my boyfriend found out that there’s a Pantone-Hotel in Bruxelles. We had a nice stay there! Each floor has a different colour-style and the rooms are designed with a certain pantone-coloursystem (we had the gray-orange room). They even have pantone-tea as you can see on the fourth picture. They also sell a lot of pantone-stuff, no question that we bought two mugs for us.

- walking around and chat a lot (my feet ares still hurting)
- drinking coffee now and then
- unfortunately the Bozar was closed while our stay (really sad!) but we made a lot of pictures from outside
- visiting hunting and collecting
- eating too much carrot-soup and chocolate-pie at Exki (didn’t know this place before)
- sleeping at the nice Hotel Pantone (will show you some pictures soon)
- watching the firework at the Mont des Arts on New Year’s Eve

Lloyd Hotel (Amsterdam)

During our stay in Amsterdam last year we had a room at the fabulous LLoyd-Hotel. This place is very nice: it is an old prison of the 1920s which has been rebuilt in the 1990s as a hotel. Its interior is made by different dutch designers and it’s very special and charming. It has rooms from one to five stars, a library with art books and shows several exhibitions. We loved it!

Paul Klee: Herbarium

Another find from my Bauhaus-books is the ‘Herbarium’ made by Paul Klee. I especially like the fact that he used a dark background for the flowers.

This is a nice book about Paul Klee and his studies about flowers and plants.

A stupid day

This day has been really bad so far. I have a cold and my head aches and I had an exhausting (but important) meeting today. All I want to do now is to watch ‘Reality Bites’, eat a lot of chocolate and hide under a huge warm blanket. But there’s still work for me to do…

Last year we made a little trip to Amsterdam at the end of December. We had so much fun! Amsterdam is such a nice city, I wish I could be there right now…

Oskar Schlemmer: ’Triadic Ballet’

I have to learn a lot about Bauhaus during the next weeks because it will be one theme of my examination in history of art next year. So I’m reading…and reading…and reading. Yesterday I stumbled across Oskar Schlemmer (1888-1943, master at the Bauhaus from 1921-1929) and his ‘Triadic Ballet’ (premièred in Stuttgart, 1922) and it really impressed me. He created an “anti-ballet” consisting of three dance-sequences with a combination of dance, pantomime and music . The actors were dressed as figurines and the custumes are fantastic, I think!

Nürnberg

We had a very nice weekend in Erlangen/Nürnberg with perfect autumn-weather. It felt so good just to walk around and talk and to have A LOT of good wine and food. It was very relaxing and I have more energy for the last weeks of my exam now. However I’m already looking forward to the next trip at the end of December. We’re planing to visit Amsterdam but we’re still not sure…

I had to pack some gifts for a nice persons’ birthday and I always have fun doing it (the idea for the packaging on the first photo comes from another blog but unfortunately I don’t know the right source anymore).

Today I’m looking forward to a little weekend trip with my boyfriend. We’re going to visit his little sister who studies in Erlangen which is close to Nürnberg (so she’s not that small anymore…). I’m sure we’ll have fun!

Last sunday we visited "Zeche Zollverein" in Essen with some friends. Essen is part of the Ruhr-area which is one of the European Capitals of Culture this year (Ruhr 2010). We had a wonderful day! It was a strange feeling to walk through this former coal-mine. It must have been very dirty and noisy in former days - now it is quiet and peaceful.

Late Mother's Day

When I was a child I collected everything with a pandabear on it. My mom knitted a panda-pullover for me and I've worn it many days in the kindergarten. Now, about 20 years later, I still have this wonderful, tiny pullover in one of my boxes and it always makes me smile when I see it.

Unfortunately I don't see my little niece that often so we established an oldfashioned way to communicate: We write letters. When I write Emma I always put some little surprises into the letter - and she? She sends me little treasures as well (you see some things on the picture above). It's always nice to receive an Emma-letter!

Yes, he illustrated "Pünktchen und Anton" as well as "Emil und die Detektive" which became very famous. But he made so many nice illustrations and drawings! See his work here

We live in a tiny, old house which has a very special look (on the photos you see its staircase). It's a bit strange but most of the time we like it...
